MOSS has been looking for a place to put down roots for more than twenty years. Crosscut's 10th Anniversary Capital Campaign will build it.

A Long Search for Home

For three decades, MOSS has taught kids in the places where science happens: forests, meadows, streams and snowy trails. A permanent base was always the goal, and one place kept coming up.

    A plan points to Bohart Ranch

    MOSS's 2002 strategic plan names Bohart Ranch as a prime candidate for a permanent home.

    The first collaboration

    MOSS and Bohart Ranch work together for the first time, an early step toward a shared future.

  3. 2016

    Crosscut Mountain Sports Center purchases Bohart Ranch

  4. 2024

    MOSS and Crosscut form a strategic partnership

    The campaign to build it

    Crosscut launches its 10th Anniversary Capital Campaign. A dedicated outdoor education center for MOSS is one of its two main projects.

  6. 2028

    Planned completion: December 2028

    The new MOSS Outdoor Education Center is scheduled to be finished in December 2028.

What the Campaign Builds: A basecamp for learning outdoors

The campaign will relocate the current Crosscut Nordic & Trail Center to become a dedicated basecamp for MOSS. Classroom time and field time sit side by side, so a group can move between the two without leaving the trails. It also gives MOSS a place of its own.

Thanks to the extraordinary generosity of Terry Thompson and Mike Simmonds, who have already matched $1 million in 2026, every gift through December 31, 2026 will be matched by them, dollar-for-dollar up to another $1 million.
